On August 4th, 2010, the Civil Rights movement celebrated one of their biggest gains in California. Proposition 8 was an amendment passed in the 2008 state elections in California. The proposition provides a provision to the state's constitution, and reads "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in the State of California.

In a country that stands for freedom, the defining line between a supposed "God-given" right and a mere privilege is one that is often blurred. Freedom of speech, press and religion are basic rights that we are promised in our constitution, but when does political correctness become insensitivity? This is a question that has been brought up again and again in modern day politics, and it is being revisited once more with the most recent controversy that is the "Ground Zero Mosque".
